In art class for the last three weeks we've been learning about many techniques and mediums for sketches and drawings! One my favorites was contour lines. We practiced this by drawing our hands and upside down images in our sketchbooks. Mine turned out looking really realistic. We learned about the multiple kinds of contour lines (there are about 3 or 4). Contour lines are successful because they make it easy to focus on shapes and not the whole picture at once and if I were to do them again... that's exactly what I would focus on.
We also practiced some scientific drawing as one of our sketchbook warm ups too! We rotated around the classroom and sketched feathers, shells, turtles and other items on the tables. Afterwards we chose our best one (I chose a feather) and added color to it on a really cool app. Scientific drawings are very successful because they are what are put into textbooks and are observed for medical reasons. If I were to do another scientific drawing I would definitely do a still life, rather than a squirming turtle.
One activity we did was perspective drawing... first we went into a hallway and attempted to draw it. Then Mrs. Sudkamp taught us about how all lines go to a point in picture and different types of perspective (1 point, 2 point and 3 point). In groups, we went around the school and took pictures to make sure we fully understood. Perspective drawings are successful because they make things like urban sketching more realistic. If I were to do more perspective drawing I would try to draw a really interesting street instead of just a hallway.
